Perth Travel Guide

Perth is based around the Swan River on a flat coastal plain down from the Darling ranges. The many uncrowded beaches along the Perth coastline also help define the lifestyle; Perth is laid-back, quiet and safe which is a great feeling for every visitor.

About Perth

Perth covers an area of 2079.5 sq. miles (5386 sq. Km) and is estimated to have a population of 1.6 million people being the capital and largest city of Western Australia, and the fourth-largest city in Australia. It is one of the most isolated state capitals in the world.

InterContinental Burswood Hotel

It’s the setting that first grabs your attention, the distinctively tiered building set within parkland right next to the Swan River, overlooking the city. Then you walk into the full-height, glass-ceilinged atrium, all set about with high-flying triangular sails. Glass-sided elevators ascend one wall. The foyer and public facilities have all been upgraded since 2003, and the suites will follow in 2008.

The hotel is part of an entertainment complex that includes Perth’s only casino, a large theater, another hotel (Holiday Inn), and a public 18-hole golf course. The surrounding parks and gardens include lakes and fountains, free barbecue facilities, a heritage walk, an outdoor summer cinema, a tourist helipad, and children’s playground. Being outside the city center, the main focus is on tourists not corporate travelers. The real stars are the spacious suites with large balconies, facing straight downriver; otherwise ask for river-view rooms. The fitness center is staffed 6am to 9pm.
