A lovely old wedding cake of an Edwardian theater, the venue was rescued and revamped in 1979. It’s Perth’s major venue for the WA Ballet and Opera companies and visiting theater productions, including those for the Perth International Arts Festival. Friends (volunteers) of His Majesty’s are on hand Monday to Friday 10am to 4pm, to provide information and tours of the theater (unless it’s in use) and public areas for a donation. Downstairs houses the Museum of Performing Arts with an engrossing collection of costumes and other memorabilia. A modern cafe, Barre, occupies part of the ground floor. King Street, just north of the theater, is a charming little thoroughfare with numerous restored buildings housing upmarket bistros, galleries, and fashion stores.
